Fran Adams is a nationally certified member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, (APLD). She has designed award-winning landscapes (see Photos). She received an A.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture with emphasis on Landscape Design from Foothill College. She has also attended classes related to landscape design through UC Berkeley Extension and Strybing Arboretum, as well as numerous workshops and lectures. She teaches classes in garden design through Foothill College and the Palo Alto Unified School District Adult School. As the sole designer at a design-build firm for nearly six years, she developed an understanding of landscape installation and how to get the desired results. She has received invitations to judge display gardens at landscape shows, and to speak to various groups on topics related to landscape design and horticulture. She is an active member of the California Landscape Contractors Association, and received the San Francisco Bay Area chapter's Karin Nelson Award for her professional contributions in 2001. She is a long-term member of the Western Horticultural Society and the California Native Plants Society. Fran grew up in Kansas, learning about design from her father, an architect, and about plants from her mother, a botany professor and skilled gardener. A Palo Alto homeowner since 1973, Fran was gardening under Bay Area skies and thinking about California garden design long before becoming a professional in 1990. |
